  • Product Q&A

Does proteins+ contain all of the complete proteins that one needs daily?

proteins+ includes 18 amino acids, including all of the essential amino acids which must be consumed in your diet and cannot be synthesized by your own body.

I would like to know whether your enzymes (e.g. lipase) and the whey isolate is derived from animals or are they microbial?

proteins+ is manufactured in Canada. However, the whey protein isolate comes from cows in the US that are grass – and grain- fed and hormone free. Our Prohydroxy blend consists of: Protease I (Aspergillus Oryzae), Protease II (Carica Papaya), Peptizyme SP (Serratia), Lactase (Aspergillus Oryzae) and Amylase (Aspergillus Oryzae). The enzymes are microbial.

Is proteins+ recommended during pregnancy & breastfeeding?

As per Health Canada, there are no safety warnings in regards to those who are pregnant or breastfeeding as it pertains to this product. This being said, it is always best to consult your health care provider before consuming any nutritional supplements while pregnant/breastfeeding.

How long does this product last after opening?

Our proteins+ product, similar to most nutritional supplements on the market, has an expiry date.
We would not recommend taking the product once it expires.

Would like to know if this contains any cholesterol.

    proteins+ has 0 cholesterol.

I eat a lot of nuts and I was wondering if adding a protein supplement to my diet could make me gain weight? Is protein supplementation recommended only if you if you do not consume enough in your diet? Also, could this product be considered a meal replacement?

It is important to remember everything in moderation. A diet high in protein has been shown to be effective in assisting in weight loss when in combination with a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise. This being said, if you find that you are consuming enough protein through your diet to meet your needs then this product may not be necessary. In addition, this product is not recommended as a meal replacement as it does not contain adequate carbs, fats, or fiber when used on its own (with water).

I suffer from a severe allergy to all nut and nut products. Many protein powders have a warning saying "may contain traces of nuts" but I did not see one on your product. Is this product safe for someone with severe allergies to all nut products and nut by-products?

Genuine Health products are produced in GMP facilities with stringent allergen control and cleaning protocols, but none of these are nut-free nor are our finished products tested for nut allergens. This product is not suitable for those with severe nut allergies.

Can my daughter who is 9 years old take proteins +?

proteins+ can be used as a source of dietary protein for children, however, we only have adult dosages for our proteins+ powders.

Health Canada protein (and all macronutrient) guidelines can be found at http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutrition/reference/table/ref_macronutr_tbl-eng.php
Keep in mind the protein content in an egg or thick slice of cheese is 6g and a chicken breast is 27g.

The maximum daily amount for children is:
    a. age 1-3, 13g
    b. age 4-8 19g
    c. age 9-13 34g

Be mindful that excess protein consumption has the potential to damage the kidneys, for this reason it is our recommendation that you seek out the opinion of your paediatrician to help determine appropriate dosing.

When is the best time to drink a proteins+ shake if I work out late afternoon? Should I drink it 30 minutes after a workout, or anytime?

The best time to take this product would be after a workout to help build muscle. The 30 minute window directly following a workout is usually the best time.

I am wondering what the lactoferrin content of this product is?

There is 2% lactoferrin in proteins+.

    Is any sugar in proteins+?

There is no sugar in proteins+.

I'm wondering if the milk you use to make your whey is from grass-fed or Grain-fed cows.

The whey we use in our proteins+ comes from cows that are grass and grain fed and hormone and antibiotic free.

When and how often should a person take proteins+?

proteins+ is great for a post workout snack. In one serving (28.3g), it provides 25g of protein. The amount of proteins+ that you should be supplementing per day would depend on the amount of protein that you are consuming from food per day. You don’t want to overload on whey protein if you are already receiving adequate amounts in your diet. Canada’s Food Guide provides the servings for each food group and age group

Can proteins+ be mixed with juice or milk and fruit?

This product can definitely be mixed with juice, milk, or in a smoothie. Water is just recommended for easier digestion purposes.

Does the chocolate flavour have added sugar?

There is no sugar added but there is naturally occurring sugar. Stevia is used for flavouring of our products.

There is a warning on the label that persons allergic to mold should not consume. Just wondering why that is, or what in this product might trigger a mold allergy?

This relates to the source of our plant enzymes – lactase and amylase – which come from Aspergillus Oryzae.

I'm concerned about the environmental impact of the plastic container that holds the powder. Is it possible to sell refills in smaller packages?

All of our bottles are the smallest size to fit the product contained within. Just like food products, our products settle and what may look to be quite empty a few months after production may have been filled to the brim when made. Additionally, all of our bottles are 100% recyclable.

Can proteins+ and greens+ be taken at the same time (same shake/serving cup)?

    Yes, they definitely can!

I am casein intolerant and would like to know if there is casein in your whey protein powder.

The high quality whey protein isolate used in proteins+ has peptides from kappa-casein in it, commonly known as glycomacropeptides. These are considered a whey protein of casein origin. That being said, intact casein is very low.  The levels are not tested nor standardized, but it is estimated that intact casein would represent less than 1% of the total protein (or <25mg/serving).

We recommend seeking out the opinion of your trusted health care provider to determine if this product is right for you.

Yes, this product is gluten free!

I have experienced having breakouts (acne) from taking whey and isolated proteins previously, do you have any idea if this product will cause the same problem?

This is not a known side effect of proteins+. In some people, dairy can promote breakouts. You may want to try our Vegan proteins+ formula to see if it has the same effect. Further to this, you may want to seek out the opinion of you trusted health care provider to determine if a sensitivity to dairy is an underlying contributor to your symptoms.

How much fiber is in 1 scoop of proteins+?

    There is 0g per serving.

Does this product contain Arginine or L-Arginine? I am looking for a protein supplement for post-workouts with absolutely NO Arginine.

proteins+ is not free of soy. It contains lecithin from non-GMO soybean. Our vegan proteins+ is 100% soy free!

Where does the "natural cream flavour” come from in your proteins+? Cream? If so is the fat content higher in this one?

Information regarding the “natural cream flavour” and “natural chocolate flavour” is proprietary, but these ingredients are 100% natural and free of MSG and other flavour enhancers. The natural cream flavour does not actually come from cream.

    Is this product lactose free?

Is your whey protein lacto-vegetarian and free from animal rennet?

Yes, our whey proteins+ is rennet free and is lacto-vegetarian.

I am inquiring why there is a warning label for diabetics when there is no sugar and no carbs?

We suggest that you ask your health care practitioner before use. Alternatively, you could use our fermented vegan proteins+ as it does not have this caution

Can proteins+ be taken daily and continuously (for years), or is it recommended to take breaks from it once in a while?

proteins+ has the notice to consult with a health care practitioner for use beyond 12 weeks. The claim is linked to the content of whey protein and is required by the NHPD.
