    Are all the ingredients organic?

    All of the organic ingredients in the bars are listed as organic, not all of them are organic. However, all Genuine Health products are tested for heavy metals, pesticides, microbes and more. We also test for GMOs, which is not required, but we believe is necessary to ensure that our products are non-GMO.

    When it comes to sourcing ingredients only the purest, highest quality ingredients are used. Sometimes these ingredients are not certified organic, however no pesticides are used in growing and the testing proves this.

    For 25 years, we have operated with the highest principles at heart and are proud to stand behind our products and their quality. Our products can be consumed with confidence!

    I heard that there are a few different kinds of agave nectar/syrup on the market, and some of them are high in sucrose. What is the make-up of Genuine Health's agave syrup?

    It is true that the manufacture of agave syrup remains somewhat of a wild west, and that less traditional methods of manufacture can influence the sugar content. Scientists are beginning to sort this out and have found that some agave syrups are dominated by sucrose, while others are dominated by fructose and the presence of the prebiotic fructooligosaccharides.*

    Sucrose is rapidly absorbed and has been linked with disturbed blood glucose-insulin balance, weight gain and oxidative stress. It’s also worth pointing out that some have confused agave syrup with high fructose corn syrup – but in traditional agave syrup, the unbound glucose content is 2-3x lower than high fructose corn syrup.**

    The agave syrup that we use is in line with traditional techniques – rich in the fruit sugar fructose and low in unbound glucose. We also should point out that the levels of fructose and glucose are very low in fermented vegan proteins+ bars.

    After the ingredients list it states may contain milk, egg, etc. Are these bars truly vegan?

    At Genuine Health quality and safety is very important to us, and we take allergen safety seriously. Our vegan products are truly vegan and do not contain any animal ingredients. The reason we list “May contain: Peanuts, milk, soy, tree nuts and egg” is for those with severe allergies, as our products are manufactured in a food facility that uses those ingredients in other products.

    We use a GMP certified facility and therefore strict procedures take place to ensure that there is no cross-contamination. These facilities provide a clear set of procedures for sanitation, material storage and manufacturing, including everything from employee hygiene, air quality, cleaning agents used, raw material receiving, sampling, testing, labelling, storage and how materials are handled in and out of production. Specifically, to ensure there is no cross-contamination between products, all stages of manufacturing are conducted in sealed rooms where only one product is made at one time. The rooms and all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and inspected upon completion of all jobs. These rooms are controlled by an air handling and dust extraction system, which eliminates the risks of airborne contamination. All materials used are verified prior to blending and then all paperwork is checked and validated before any product is released.

    These procedures greatly lower the risk for cross contamination, but we cannot guarantee that there is no trace of potential allergens because these ingredients are used in the facility. By law we are required to list these on our packaging for those with severe and life-threatening allergies.

    What is an isolmaltooligosaccharide (IMO)?

    While the name is a mouthful, isolmaltooligosaccharide (IMO), also known as VitaFiber™, is actually a traditional food. IMO is a fermented fiber with pre-biotic properties found naturally in miso, sake, soy sauce and honey. IMO has several health benefits, primarily it is well established to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the GI tract, particularly bifidobacteria. This is your good gut bacteria needed for digestion, immune system and even producing some vitamins. If you take a probiotic, taking a prebiotic is equally as important.

    How many grams of isomalto-oligosaccharides are in the fermented vegan proteins+ bars?

    There is up to 10g per serving.

    Do we test the peanut butter chocolate flavour for aflatoxin?

    Yes! Our peanut butter is tested for aflatoxins and must be <15 parts per billion.

    Is the coconut in the fermented vegan proteins+ bar lemon coconut processed with sulfur?

    No, it is sulfur-free.

    What is the source of the citrus fibre in the lemon coconut flavour?

    The citrus fiber comes from orange.
